1. When does my dog need a rabies shot?
Dogs need their first rabies shot at 4 months of age. The first shot lasts for
one year. Rabies vaccinations after that are good for three years.
2. When do I have to purchase a license for my dog, how do
I get a dog license?
California State Law
mandates that all dogs be licensed within the area they live by the time they
are four months of age. The Towns Ordinance No. 138 also requires that
owners must license their dogs within 30 days after obtaining a dog that is
four months of age or older.
You may purchase a
dog license from Town Hall (Monday thru Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding
holidays/weekends) or Yucca Valley Animal Shelter (Open Monday - Saturday, 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. excluding holidays. Phone is (760) 365-3111. Or; you may download an
application form from this
site and send it in with a check made out for the exact amount. Remember that
the license expiration date cannot exceed the rabies expiration date.
Be sure to bring/send
a copy of your dogs current rabies certificate and proof of spaying or
neutering if applicable. (Remember, it costs about half of the regular license
fee if your dog is altered!)
