5. Does my son or daughter need to try out to be placed
on a Youth Basketball team?
No. All participants who register for the league will be placed on a team. However, there will be
a player evaluation activity each season, before players are placed on a team. This
activity will allow the coaches to evaluate players who may perform at different skill levels.
It is recommended that your child participate in the player evaluation, to help ensure that
teams are as fair and balanced as possible.
6. Where will the Youth Basketball
practices be held? How often? What times?
Practices will be held at the Boys & Girls Club, La Contenta Middle School,
Evangelical Free Church Gym, or other school gymnasiums and possibly an outdoor court. Practices could be
conducted on any weekday, or weekend, depending on your coaches personal schedule.
Each team will be allowed one hour practices at a maximum of twice per week. If you
find that this is not the case, please call the recreation staff as soon as possible
so that we may rectify the situation. Practice times vary from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
7. In the Youth Basketball
program, will my child play in each game?
Yes. Each player will play a minimum of 4 to 5 consecutive minutes (depending on the age division)
in the first three or four quarters (also depending on age division). Substitutions will be called
half way through the quarter for the sole purpose of meeting the minimum play rule. There are
exceptions. At the discretion of your coach, your child may not be allowed to participate if
he/she has not been attending practices, is not healthy, has displayed a poor attitude,
etc.
