Police Administration Division

The Town of Yucca Valley has contracted with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department to provide police services since July 1, 1992.  To meet specific law enforcement needs, the police department utilizes a juvenile officer, traffic officer, MET/POP officer and an Off-Highway Vehicle Enforcement Team along with Citizens on Patrol volunteers.

The juvenile officer serves a dual role as a law enforcer and educator within both the community and at the junior high and high schools.  Responsibilities include juvenile issues on and off the campus and facilitating Operation Clean Sweep in the schools.  The juvenile officer is seen as both a mentor and role model for teens.

Traffic officers serve specifically to reduce the rate of traffic collisions by combining high visibility patrol with strict enforcement of vehicle code violations.  To help educate the residents on traffic flow and speed, traffic officers work closely with the Citizens on Patrol unit in planning locations for the Town’s highly visible radar trailer.

Yucca Valley’s Off-Highway Vehicle Enforcement and Education Program use dual-sport motorcycles and specially trained officers to address citizen’s concerns regarding off-highway vehicle violations.  The team has been very successful in reducing the number of off-road vehicle complaints received within the town limits.

Citizen on Patrol Unit – Supplementing the Town’s uniformed patrol officers is a highly dedicated group of citizen volunteers, trained residents who donate thousands of volunteer hours each year.  They patrol the neighborhoods acting as an extra set of eyes and ears for the Town’s patrol officers.  They also assist with crowd control, traffic control, community events and many other duties.
