The juvenile officer, serves a dual role as a law enforcer
and educator within both the community and at the junior high and high schools.
Responsibilities include juvenile issues on and off campus and facilitating
Operation Clean Sweep in the schools. He is active with the Cops and Jocks Program
and is seen as both a mentor and role model for teens.
Traffic officers, Deputy Ray Camacho and Deputy Jimmy Del Gado serve specifically to reduce
the rate of traffic collisions by combining high visibility patrol with strict
enforcement of vehicle code violations. He addresses concerns with various
vehicle safety issues within the community and is very active with the Off-Road
Enforcement Team. To help educate the residents on traffic flow and speed, traffic officers work closely with the citizen patrol volunteers in planning locations
for the Towns highly visible radar trailer.
Yucca Valleys Off-Highway Vehicle Enforcement and Education Program uses
Honda 650cc dual sport motorcycles and specially trained officers to address
citizens concerns regarding off-highway vehicle violations.
Police Safety Specialist Vera Martinez has a wide range of responsibilities,
primarily to reduce crime through education. Public Safety Announcements are
aired regularly on local radio stations and a Crime Watch article appears in
the local newspaper. Vera s duties also include providing any one of 32
safety programs for both the general public and civic groups.
The Police Safety Specialist is also responsible for scheduling and organizing
community safety events throughout the year. These include safety booths (child
fingerprinting, safety brochures, bicycle rodeos, etc.), promoting safety campaigns
(Red Ribbon Week, Law Enforcement Week, Safe & Sober, National Night Out,
Lights on for Life, 3-D Month and Every 3 Minutes), and assisting with organizing
security and road closures for parades and other special events.
