Police Administration Division

The Town of Yucca Valley has contracted with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department to provide police services since July 1, 1992. The Town’s police force currently consists of 11 Patrol Deputies, 1 Juvenile Officer, 1 Detective, 2 Sergeants, 1 Lieutenant, 1 Police Service Specialist and 2 station clerks and a number of Citizens on Patrol members. Captain Dale Mondary acts as the Chief of Police for the Town.

To meet specific law enforcement needs, the local department utilizes a juvenile officer, a traffic officer, a Problem Oriented Policing officer and an off-road education and enforcement team.

The juvenile officer, serves a dual role as a law enforcer and educator within both the community and at the junior high and high schools. Responsibilities include juvenile issues on and off campus and facilitating Operation Clean Sweep in the schools. The officer is seen as both a mentor and role model for teens.

Traffic officer, Deputy Jimmy Delgado serves specifically to reduce the rate of traffic collisions by combining high visibility patrol with strict enforcement of vehicle code violations. He addresses concerns with various vehicle safety issues within the community. To help educate the residents on traffic flow and speed, traffic officers work closely with the citizen patrol volunteers in planning locations for the Town’s highly visible radar trailer.

Yucca Valley’s Off-Highway Vehicle Enforcement and Education Program uses Honda 650cc dual sport motorcycles and specially trained officers to address citizens’ concerns regarding off-highway vehicle violations.

Sheriff’s Service Specialist Melissa Kramer has a wide range of responsibilities, primarily to reduce crime through education but she also handles minor crime reports and assists officers at traffic accident scenes. Public Safety Announcements are aired regularly on local radio stations and a Crime Watch article appears in the local newspaper. Melissa’s duties also include providing any one of 32 safety programs for both the general public and civic groups.

The Sheriff’s Service Specialist is also responsible for scheduling and organizing community safety events throughout the year. These include safety booths (child fingerprinting, safety brochures, bicycle rodeos, etc.), promoting safety campaigns (Red Ribbon Week, Law Enforcement Week, Safe & Sober, National Night Out, Lights on for Life, 3-D Month and Every 3 Minutes), and assisting with organizing security and road closures for parades and other special events.
