On March 4, the Yucca Valley Town Council directed Town staff to perform an operational review of the Yucca Valley Animal Shelter. This was a result of feedback received at the February 18 Town Council meeting regarding animal intake, adoption processes, canine adoption rates, euthanasia rates and volunteer opportunities. The operational review will assess current practices, confirm alignment with industry standards and identify ways to improve shelter operations and increase public transparency. This will ensure that the Town Council and the public receive a thorough review of data, policies and procedures to establish the best care for animals at the shelter.

The final operational review was completed on July 15.

Animal Shelter Operating Committee

In an ongoing effort to enhance the care and services provided by the Yucca Valley Animal Shelter, the Town has established the Yucca Valley Animal Shelter Operating Committee. This newly formed committee is dedicated to reviewing shelter operations, engaging with the community and exploring opportunities for improvement through open, workshop-style discussions. The committee is led jointly by Councilman Jim Schooler and Mayor Jeff Drozd.

These meetings are open to the public and designed to be collaborative and informative. Your input is valuable as we work together to support the mission and future of the Yucca Valley Animal Shelter.
